MILA and the Deep Truth Project were pleased to host a successful webinar on 27 April 2026, on ‘Deepfakes and AI-generated media: what everyone needs to know’. This highly topical event featured a presentation, available below, from Ashmita Rajmohan, founder of the Deep Truth Project. The webinar described the nature of the deepfake threat and how media literacy can help to address it. Participants were given given a practical grounding on the nature of deepfakes: what these tools can do now, how they differ from cruder forms of manipulation, and why the frenetic pace of change matters.
The webinar also covered the relationship between deepfakes and disinformation and considered what MILA and other players could do to address this challenge.
Interested in continuing the conversation on deepfakes? MILA is always happy to foster a dialogue and/or collaborations to help develop understanding of these issues, particularly inasmuch as they relate to media and information literacy. Please feel free to contact us at media.infolit.alliance@gmail.com if you’d like to suggest possible collaborative ideas. And the Deep Truth Project can provide assistance in integrating synthetic media literacy into educational or training resources – their contact form is at deeptruthproject.org .
